Position Description:

Summary

Under general supervision, assist in various administrative and data collection aspects of clinical research studies as part of the Community Neurotrauma Team in the Department of Neurosurgery's Center for Neurotrauma Research.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collect data from research participants, which includes performing clinical assessments (e.g., interview and questionnaire assessments of symptoms, neuropsychological tests of cognitive functioning), coordinating with research nurses to obtain blood samples from participants, and coding data from patient medical records.
  • Process and handle blood biospecimens according to research protocols.
  • Review patient medical charts and call participants to screen for study inclusion/exclusion criteria; coordinate patient visits to MCW or phone visits.
  • Support data quality assurance activities by verifying data collected on paper forms and within the computerized data base.
  • Order and maintain log of stipend checks and/or gift certificates to be distributed to study participants.
  • Provide general clerical support to investigators.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Confidence when conducting informed consent conversations with patients
  • Strong problem solving and attentiveness to detail required. Adherence to documentation rules is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortable in hospital settings and collaborating with clinical staff

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: High school

Minimum Required Experience: 1 year

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Experience: Experience with venipuncture/phlebotomy and biospecimen processing

Required Certification/Licensure(s): CITI training within 90 days of hire

Physical Requirements

Work involves light exertion transporting materials or equipment but not for sustained time.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
