NEEDED: Pharmacy Technician

LOCATION: 1640 Sky View Drive, Bruceton Mills, WV 26525

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : Must have graduated high school and been awarded a high school diploma, or its equivalent.

Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross

E xperience : At least one year of experience which prepared the individual to do the services described in this document. Such specialized experience includes filling prescriptions, distributing pharmaceuticals, and utilizing pharmacy-based computer systems, and may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories.

Examples of positions and programs that may have provided an individual sufficient experience include:

  1. Medication administration training program
  2. Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant program which included instruction on medication administration
  3. Certified Pharmacy Technician program
  4. Vocational Nursing Program
  5. Paramedic Training Program

Evidence of program accreditation by an appropriate accrediting body (as applicable) as well as program completion are required.

The applicant is required to successfully demonstrate initial competence to administer medications, and on-going competence in administration of medications as required.

If the applicant is a licensed vocational nurse, emergency medical technician, or certified pharmacy technician, valid certification/licensure (as appropriate) to practice in the state of West Virginia must be maintained. The individual must possess proof of their current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration.

Preferred qualifications and experience include:

  • Experience in providing healthcare in a correctional setting
  • Additional professional education and certifications

The contractor shall provide a resume and any requested documentation, along with a copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support the employee’s stated qualifications.

JOB DUTIES: Provide pharmacy technician services commensurate with community standards which include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the pharmacist in ordering, stocking, storing, and dispensing of prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and BOP Formulary constraints.
  • Maintaining pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assisting the pharmacist in maintaining stock of up-to-date medications (checking for outdates per policy) in the main pharmacy, crash carts, emergency bags, and Automated Dispensing Systems.
  • Assisting the pharmacist with maintaining stock of forms as needed and updating Pill Line/Restricted Medication cards for inmates as well as filing Medication Administration Records into the Medical Record.
  • Assisting the pharmacist in preparing unit dose or pre-packaged medications.
  • Completing and maintaining competency as indicated by the ability to complete the Pharmacy Competency Module while maintaining knowledge of BOP Formulary and any changes to this document.
  • Maintaining the narcotics count and the needle and syringe inventories.
  • Maintaining and re-stocking adequate supplies for the “Night Stock” supplies and performing audits of the “Night Stock” or Automated Dispensing System.
  • Possessing a working knowledge and maintaining technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues.
  • Must participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities as directed by the Pharmacist or HSA.
  • Accomplishing all procedures within standard infection control protocols.
  • Maintaining equipment through normal procedures including cleaning and sterilizing as well as minor troubleshooting or repairs. Any defective equipment should be properly reported for corrective action to be taken.
  • Properly storing and maintaining adequate levels of supplies in assigned rooms. If, at any time, the incumbent notices any supplies running low in the supply room, he/she immediately notifies the person responsible so that supplies can be reordered.
  • Ensuring instruments and unapproved items are not left in the clinic during non-patient care hours and that proper storage and security procedures are adhered to, as instructed.
  • Assisting in audits and reviews of records.
  • Completing a wide array of clerical and support duties such as use of the BOP electronic medical record, utilization of institutional-specific computer programs such as SENTRY, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, filing, typing, callouts, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients and maintaining stock records.
  • Acquiring and maintaining knowledge of the Health Services Manual and unit procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein.
