Join to apply for the Part-Time Radiation Safety Officer role at The Catholic University of America The primary function of this position will be to serve as the University Radiation Safety Officer. Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the University Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguarding users of radioactive materials and radiation devices. Accountable for applicable Radioactive Materials Licenses as authorized by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Acts as the campus technical expert on radiological research projects and leads the University Radiation Safety Committee. Reports to the Sr. Director of Environmental Health and Safety/Risk Management. The projected salary for this position is $80/hr. Key Responsibilities: Manage the Radiation Safety Program, including radiological surveillance, waste disposal, personnel monitoring, inventory management, equipment calibration, shipment handling, and laser safety. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, maintain licenses, and respond to radiation incidents and emergencies. Review proposed uses of radiation sources, develop training programs, and conduct safety orientations for students, faculty, and staff. Participate in emergency response activities and maintain safety records. Collaborate with university leadership to foster a safe environment and maintain the EHS RM website. Build strong relationships with academic and administrative staff. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in health physics, medical physics, nuclear engineering, or related field. Five (5) years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and training. Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Knowledge of radiation protection standards, measurement techniques, and regulations. 40 hours of training in radioactive materials handling and radiation safety. Ability to hold NRC licenses if required. Knowledge of safety standards from NCRP, ICRP, OSHA, EPA, and others. Understanding of applicable safety regulations and ability to operate campus vehicles. Computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, and website management. Strong communication skills and ability to work collegially.
